The FDA has approved the new silicone hydrogel contact lenses (Ciba Focus Night & Day and Bausch & Lomb PureVision) for 30 days and nights of continuous wear and we are now fitting these lenses in our office in Santa Monica. |

Focus NIGHT & DAY lenses are made from a revolutionary, new, fluro-silicone hydrogel material that supplies six times more oxygen to the eye (an oxygen transmissibility of 175 Dk/t) than ordinary disposable lenses and 40 percent more oxygen than the minimum threshold (125 Dk/t) recognized by independent researchers for overnight wear of lenses. The unique, biocompatible properties of the lenses also help minimize deposit buildup over time. The Centre for Contact Lens Research (CCLR) of the University of Waterloo, and the Cooperative Research Centre for Eye Research and Technology (CRCERT) and Cornea and Contact Lens Research Unit (CCLRU) at the University of New South Wales, have been involved in the research and development of Silicone Hydrogels for continuous wear for the last 10 years (website: http://www.siliconehydrogels.org).
